One question every visitor and buyer asks is: how do I get onto a good beach without staying in a hotel? Hurghada has several answers, from simple public beaches to day-use hotel beaches and island beach clubs.
Public and paid public beaches
Many beaches charge a small entrance fee that covers loungers, umbrellas, showers and toilets. Names visitors often mention include El Sakia Beach (near the centre), El Sawaky Beach in the El Dahar area, Orange Beach, Sheraton Beach, Dream Beach in the El Mamsha area and Fayrous Beach (Public Beach No. 5) near Sheraton Street. Public Beach No. 4 has clear water but minimal facilities, and No. 9 is at the southern end and reachable by micro-bus.
Day use at hotels
Hotel beaches are usually restricted to guests or to day-use visitors who pay for the day. Day use gives you a beach, a pool and food in one place. Ask each hotel what is included.
Island beaches
Mahmya Island, about 11 km from the city, is reached by boat and is known for white sand and clear water for snorkelling. Boat trips to the islands leave from Hurghada Marina.
Choosing a home near the beach
Distance to the beach depends on the project. Jonas Suites is about a 10-minute walk, Besko is about 1.5 km, Grand Gate is about 3 km and the El Kawther Gates are about 10 minutes by car. Read our area checklist.
